Ubiquitous Broadband Access took a LONG time to arrive in much of NM, with the BTOP grants being first developed in 2006 and 2007, with PSA acting as one of the top leads for organizing a NM and El Paso Borderlands BTOP proposal. That’s 2 decades ago. But better late than never, and great news for breaking down at least part of the Digital Divide.

Now… if only the powers that be in Education fully perceived Broadband Access as a game changer for rural students in and out of the classroom, and for urban students in and out of the classroom as well.

Currently, just as this new ubiquitous empowerment is arriving, pushback in Institutional Educational leadership is, in effect, about removing access, not adding access.

The pushback against the “screens in the classroom” is arriving because of real challenges that exist for its appropriate use,  But there are real opportunities as well and some educational policy makers seem willing to throw out the baby with the bath water… rather than examining what might be changed to make it all work.

What is needed instead are new creative and imaginative MO for “screens in the classroom…including AI”.

It’s historically been a huge challenge for Educational Institutions in the US to adapt and adjust and incorporate effectively.…. various powerful new EdTech that has arrived over the last 35 years or so.

It’s even more important that this gets done right this time, though the barrier of the status quo in US education is formidable. US Education generally just isn’t designed for change… …and it HAS to change to meet the needs of 21st century students.
